Its yellow...

So next up for breaking is a MG ZR 160 in trophy yellow.

Sadly this car was beyond economic repair due to the outer sills being rotten through to the floor. We got it from a seller who needed just the head and seats so the rest of the car was heading for the scrap yard...

Now its being broken completely so if you need any bits then feel free to contact us sales@mg-zr-bits.co.uk or visit our eBay shop

Its got a mk2 rear boot and bumper but is a mk1.5 with the Pectron BCU.

From http://www.mg-rover.info this is the build data

Welcome

Welcome to the MG-ZR-Bits blog.

The idea of this blog is to share what we are up to, what we know and what we are up to.

So let's start with a bit of history...

Back in 2013 some of our racing friends in the MGCC Trophy where struggling to get the parts they needed. As these cars get older some of the parts are becoming obsolete, you have to remember that MG Rover closed in 2005. Initially the plan was just to break the odd car to keep up with the demand from these guys but word got out and soon lots of people want all sorts of parts which the racing guys didn't need. eBay seemed to be the obvious solution and recently this was upgraded to a full shop.

Why not take a look at our shop here?

Why is MG ZR Bits different?

We are not a scrap yard. Nothing is damaged or destroyed by us during removal, you won't find cut wires (unless you ask for just a plug!) and broken parts just carefully removed parts ready for you to fit.

We disassemble down to a much finer level than most. This means you can buy the very nuts, bolts and screws that hold your car together as well as the main parts. We strip engines are are happy to sell parts individually or as sets but don't often sell the engine complete.

Which MG ZR models do we break?

The short answer to this is any, but given a choice the 160 VVC is ideal. These are the cars the MG Trophy cars are based on so much of the running gear is in demand. The ideal car is a either a non-runner with serious mechanical conditions or a good runner with a rotten shell. Occasionally we get a car in that is simple too good or too rare to break.

This is a MG ZR 160 Monogram we saved. It had previously had had the head gasket replaced but the mechanic bent the cross shaft for the VVC and mis timed the cam belt! Luckily this is salvageable with some specialist knowledge and some select replacement parts. Long gone but was an excelent example of a MG ZR 160.

Why the MG ZR?

We love these cars. They are fast and easy to work on and are great out the box as well as making a good base for a project.

The guys at the MG Car Club run several race series including the MGCC Trophy Championship - they premier circuit racing series for these cars.

MG Rover produced over 82,000 MG ZRs before going bust in 2005. It looks like most of these, around 51K, where registered in the UK.

Fast forward to today and it looks like there are 14,000 still on the road and another 6,000 SORN.

There must be a point coming soon that these cars become "classics" and start to rise in value. The top prices currently are reserved for the Monogram cars. Keep an eye out for our buyers guide coming soon.

In the meantime if you have any questions just give us a call, email or leave a comment! Happy driving.
